Floating in the summer sky.
Floating by for all to see,
Floating by so merrily.
Flutter, flutter, butterfly,
Floating in the summer sky.
what to do…
- select three different food colourings. (I have used red, blue and yellow.)
- using a pipette, suck up and squeeze out little droplets of food colouring onto the butterfly blotting paper.
- leave to see what happens when the colours mix and spread to form a unique pattern.
- a beautiful butterfly to hang from the window.
then into a little dream adventure…
- Look at the life cycle of a butterfly. Exploring words such as, egg, caterpillar, cocoon.
- Read the wonderful story by Eric Carle ‘the very hungry caterpillar.’
- Take a trip to London zoo and visit the ‘butterfly paradise’ area.
- Looking at pictures of butterflies and discussing words like ‘symmetrical,’ ‘camouflage.’
- Go outside into the garden and pretend to fly like a butterfly.
- Maybe try some other simple butterfly art activities: for example, cut out a butterfly shape, paint on one side, then fold in half and open again to reveal a symmetrical butterfly! or make a butterfly masks!!!
