‘Having flown this earth for 300 million years, dragonflies symbolise our ability to overcome times of hardship.

They can remind us to take time to reconnect with our own strength, courage and happiness.’

what to do…

  1. Fold a strip of paper carefully over to look like a figure of 8 and staple in the centre and tape across the end join. These are your dragonfly wings ready for printing.
  2. Then choose some coloured paints, and using your dragon fly wings, dip into the paint, edge down.
  3. Print onto your piece of paper and repeat several times, with different colours if wanted.
  4. Then using a different colour, dip your finger into the paint, and then through each dragonfly wing draw a ‘l’ through the centre, creating the body for the dragonfly.
  5. Dancing dragonflies…

then into a little dream adventure…

  • visit ponds, lakes and streams in the summer months and see if you can spot any dancing dragonflies darting about!!! what colours are they?
  • talking about how ‘delicate’ and ‘fragile’ a dragonfly is.
  • make a 3d dragonfly with a wooden clothes peg and pipe cleaner- decorate the clothes peg, then fold over the pipe cleaner into a 8 shape and slot into the peg for the wings.
