Time to get healthy and have some fun with colour…

Encouraging children to eat a variety of fruits can, at times, be a challenge, but this little activity can get them excited about the different colours and flavours…

A perfect snack, pudding or party food!!! you can never go wrong with these delicious rainbow fruit kebabs.

what you need…

  • strawberry
  • satsuma
  • pineapple
  • grapes
  • blueberries
  • more grapes!!!

what to do…

  1. wipe the table and wash your hands
  2. prepare the fruit – washing, peeling, slicing (I recommend slicing the grapes in half)
  3. thread the fruit onto the kebab stick
  4. enjoy!!!

then into a little dream adventure…

    • try different fruit combinations – a berry kebab with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries…a tropical kebab with kiwi, pineapple, mango, lychee…a vegetable kebab with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, avocado
    • read the stories ‘Mrs Rainbow’ by Neil Griffiths, ‘Olivers fruit salad’ by Alison Bartlett,
    • talking about what their favourite fruit is and why?
    • talking about what their favourite colour is and why?
    • looking at fruit and where they grow
    • do you have any fruit growing in your garden?
    • look at the different fruits and the pips, seeds and stones they hold on the inside, are they big, small, round, oval?
    • what other things can you do with fruit?
    • make fruit juice with oranges…
    • try doing some fruit printing with paint!!! cutting the fruit in half and dipping into paint – apple printing, pear printing…
    • sing the rainbow song:

Red and yellow and pink and green,
Purple and orange and blue…
I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow,
Sing a rainbow too…
