Christmas wouldn’t be the same without the gingerbread biscuits making their warming appearance at our tea time table…gingerbread

what you need…

  • 350g plain flour
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 125g butter
  • 180g light muscavado sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbsp golden syrup
  • bowl x2
  • wooden spoongingerbread2
  • rolling pin
  • cutters (stars, hearts, gingerbread men shapes)
  • greaseproof paper
  • baking tray

what to do…

  1. put oven on at 170c
  2. add the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ginger into the bowl
  3. rub in the butter until the mixture resembles bread crumbs
  4. stir in the sugar
  5. in another bowl beat the egg and golden syrup together
  6. pour into the mixture and knead until a dough is formed
  7. roll out dough on a floured surface and press in cookie cutters
  8. place shaped biscuits into baking traygingerbread3
  9. place in oven and cook for 12 minutes until golden
  10. leave to cool and decorate as desired…
