what you need…

using a simple cupcake mix:

  • 110g softened butter
  • 110g caster sugar
  • 110g plain flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • yellow butter icing
  • mini eggs
  • 100’s and 1000’s
  • cupcake cases

what to do…

  1. preheat the oven to 180c
  2. pop the paper cases in the muffin tray
  3. beat the butter and sugar in a bowl until soft and fluffy
  4. pour the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl
  5. beat the eggs and vanilla extract and add to the bowl and stir all together
  6. spoon the mixture into the cases and then put in the oven for approx 20 mins
  7. once baked, leave to cool
  8. once cool, spread the yellow buttercream icing over each cupcake and decorate with mini eggs and 100’s and 1000’s

into a little dream adventure…

  • count out the mini eggs, counting by rote how many do they have, then maybe see if your child can count them back wards, you could also introduce simple mathematics using the mini eggs to assist with the addition and subtraction
  • introduce counting in 2’s or 3’s or 5’s
  • group all the eggs according to colour, naming the colours and writing the names of the colours out, and grouping the eggs into the correct colour category
  • talking about shape – what other objects around them can they recognise as having the same shape like that of an egg? what is the official name for an egg shape? introducing the Oval
