duck biscuits 4Continuing our ‘spring’ theme this week, and these have to be some of the most delicious kiddies biscuits we have ever made…however, take my advice, maybe choose a more suitable time to embark on this fun cooking activity!!! We decided to start making these delights just before lunch time with three hungry little boys, I think most of the mixture got eaten before it was ever made into biscuits!!! The decorating was super fun though and very relaxing after lunch activity, making the yummiest afternoon snack!!!

what you need…

  • 75g unsalted butterduck biscuits 6
  • 80g caster sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • 265g self raising flour
  • 1 lemon zest
  • rolling pin
  • duck shape cutter (we used one from the playdough cutters!!! to be honest you could use any shape of cutter for your own desired biscuit shape!!!)
  • oven tray
  • baking paper
  • icing sugar
  • food colouring
  • chocolate drops

what to do…duck biscuits 3

  1. cream together the butter and sugar with an electric whisk for 1 minute
  2. beat together the egg and golden syrup, then beat into the creamed butter
  3. sift in the flour
  4. add the lemon zests
  5. stir until it comes together to form a dough
  6. you may need to add more flour if the dough is still too sticky
  7. roll out your dough on the table
  8. using the duck cutter, push down into the dough
  9. place your duck onto the baking paper in the oven tray
  10. and continue to make more ducks from the dough until it is all finished up
  11. place in the oven for 12-15 mins
  12. once cooked, leave to cool
  13. once cooled, decorate your duck biscuits!!!
  14. have fun and enjoy eating them…delicious…

then into a little dream adventure…

  • sing ‘5 little ducks went swimming one day…’ use the biscuits as props, showing early subtraction visually
  • go down to your local pond or stream to feed the ducks? how many ducks are there? how many different breeds of ducks are there? are there any ducklings?

  • read ‘Jemima puddle duck’ by Beatrix Potter
