I’m always looking out for new tasty snacks to feed my little boys forever hungry tummies, and rather than constantly buying a multitude of multicoloured, animal covered, £ spending offerings, we decided to make these together!!! and despite the fact they very much lacked all sense of mass production!!! they did surprisingly go down quite well!!!

what you need…

  • 50g unsalted butter
  • 250g cheddar cheese
  • 125g wholemeal flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons of seeds
  • magimix
  • rolling pin
  • pastry brush
  • baking sheet
  • greaseproof paper

what to do…

  1. preheat the oven to 200c and line the baking sheet with greaseproof paper
  2. in the magimix, cream the butter and cheese together, stir in the floor, and then bring together to form a soft dough
  3. on a floured surface, roll out the dough until about 1.5cm thick, and brush it with beaten egg
  4. cut the strips from the dough, to about 5cm and sprinkle with seeds
  5. place the strips of the baking sheet and place in the oven for 10/15 minutes until crisp
  6. leave to cool and enjoy!!!

into a little dream adventure…

  • using the left over dough to explore and manipulate like playdough – what shapes can they make? what happens if you roll it? pat it? stretch it? add water to it, or add more flour too it?
  • count out the number of breadsticks made…how many do you have? how many shall we eat? how many does that leave you with? exploring simple subtraction
  • maybe you would like to make a simple dip to go with your breadsticks? have you tried making hummous? or a simple cream cheese and pesto dip?
