Yipeeeeeeee!!!! the sun is shining, summer has arrived, and I hope it is still here by the time you read this blog!!!! For now though, it’s definitely time to celebrate, so get those balloons out of the kitchen drawer and get puffing, we have fun to be had and paint to play with. Balloons make the perfect painting tool.

We did this art activity outside as it gave the boys more room to (get paint everywhere!!!) really use there whole bodies to get into it…more fun being able to use their gross motor skills and really jump about with their balloons, and on the plus less paint to tidy up afterwards inside your house!!! If you are able to make a little washing line to hang the card from at child height this is ideal, otherwise on the grass/terrace is perfect.

what you need…

  • 3 different colours of paint in trays or plates (I always make sure one is white so the colours don’t mix and go a horrible sludgy colour!!!)
  • 3 balloons
  • large pieces of cardballoon painting

what to do…

  1. blow up the balloons
  2. squeeze big blobs of paint into 3 different trays or plates
  3. hang up a large piece of card on a child height washing line or lay flat on the grass/terrace
  4. cover your child (and yourself) in a smock or apron
  5. ready, steady, go!!!!
  6. dab the balloons into the different coloured paint and bang them against the hanging card so much fun!!!

then into a little dream adventure…

  • what other art activities could you explore outside?
  • maybe using a large piece of card or paper and listening to some different genre’s of music and see what different styles of painting appears from them listening to the music and painting at the same time
  • or, all children love running around the garden bare feet, so why not cover an area of the garden with paper and have a few trays of paint out for them to squelch their feet into and go for a walk, dance, jump or whatever they fancy leaving a little paint footprint where ever they wonder
  • if you haven’t already, have a go at the spray painting activity, that’s a winner too!!!
