woweeeeeeee this week has gone so super fast!!! Too much going back to school business for my liking but as always we are slowly getting back into the swing of things and finding our feet once again…

This little post was inspired by our beautiful Sunday we’ve just had here in London. The September sun shone whilst we biked through the stunning Richmond park, stopping for picnics and adventures along the way. I couldn’t help but take in the striking fern leaves all around me, the shape, the colour, the feel, the density of it (like a jungle for little elves and fairies!!!) I picked a few leaves, and popped them in my bag knowing that something creative would come out of this…

what to do…

  1. squeeze some green paint into a tray, not too much, the less paint the better the result
  2. place the fern leaves delicately onto the paint and press down with the paintbrush or finger tips, all the way along the stem and to the tips of the leaves
  3. carefully lift out of the paint and place onto the card, pressing gently down
  4. peal away the leaf
  5. a beautiful stencil of the leaf is left

into a little dream adventure…

  • as autumn approaches go outside for a nature walk and collect all sorts of different shapes and sizes of leaves
  • theme your paint to Autumn colours or neon colours or variations of the same colour when leaf painting
  • find a variety of size to print, identifying the small, medium and large leaves
  • acknowledging which tree which leaf is from – oak, ash, beech etc
  • matching leaves – which leaves look the same and which look different?
  • that some trees loose their leaves in Autumn, these are called ‘deciduous’ trees, and ‘evergreen’ trees retain their leaves all year round
  • collecting leaves and counting with leaves – how many leaves do you have? what if you add 1 more to these leaves what does that make? simple maths…
  • identifying various colours of leaves
