I think one of my favourite times of the year is when the daffodils start flowering…their vibrant yellow colour pushing away the bleakness o
f the winter and bringing hope and joy to the gardens, parks and the countryside. Scattering their joy into the spring to come.
This activity is a must, and one I have used time after time for spring projects or mothers day cards or even science lessons catered towards 3 year olds, to simply help them learn the different parts of the daffodil flower.
what you need…
- egg cartoon
- yellow tissue paper
- orange tissue paper
- glue
- card
- felt tips
what you
do…
- cut out the egg cups from the egg carton
- glue the yellow tissue paper around the egg cup to make the petals
- scrunch up the orange tissue paper and glue into the centre of the egg cup to make the ‘trumpet’ of the flower
- glue the base of the egg cup to the card
- then using a felt tip draw the stem and leaves (for younger children I would cut out a stem and leaf for them to glue below the flower head
- daffodil made…

then into a little dream adventure…
- why not use red/pink tissue paper instead to make a tulip
- or white and yellow tissue paper to make a daisy
- how many different spring flowers can you make, maybe make a whole garden of them on your picture!!! so pretty…
- read ‘That’s not a daffodil’ by Elizabeth Honey
- draw a daffodil from still life…its so lovely seeing a child’s view on the world!!!
